Shops like these are quite hard to come by even in this big, eternal city. I know because I have been scouring Rome for places such as the one I discovered only yesterday:
-a local, family-owned business that arose to fill a tender need in the world.
-a business crafted by people who carefully consider what they're offering the community.
-a fun place with an ecological heart.
When you walk into Il Posto Delle Fragole you can feel, in the atmosphere of the shop, a general warmth and well-being. It's a cosy place.
Giving a look to the wooden shelves lined with colorful, wooden toys, creativity-building kits, educational games, and hand-made clothes, you can tell this is a place that wants children to live healthy and inspired lives.
In fact, Valentina Buffa, the lovely shopkeeper, explained that her motivation to pursue this business adventure was the birth of her own children and a desire to fill the empty space in Rome for "heart and hand-made objects, which nourish and stimulate the spirit of children, like those who accompany them."
Well put!
Loving the shop philosophy, I went there hoping my Fidorables could find a cosy space in that enchanted world. To my great excitement, they found a new home!
So if you're looking for hand-crafted, ecologically-friendly stuffed toys, puppets, and masks made by one small, but compassionate woman, (or even simply to chat with parents who have like-minded ideas), Il Posto Delle Fragole should be on your list of places to see in Rome. You'll be welcomed in.
